What is Tamariki Tipu - Growing Children?

Current Aotearoa based research shows a rise in emotional and behavioural difficulties among tamariki amid a growing number of unmet mental health needs. Issues once considered to be teen concerns, like social media pressure, identity struggles, and anxiety, are now prevalent in childhood. When mild-to-moderate issues are not addressed before they escalate, it can lead to worsening symptoms, reduced wellbeing, and long-term consequences for individuals, whānau/family, and hapori (communities).

To bridge this gap, we help establish proactive presence-based children’s workers to play a critical role through being consistently available within the school environment and local communities. They provide real-time support, relational-based care, and proactive intervention before issues escalate.

For over 26 years, 24-7 YouthWork has partnered local churches and schools to provide presence-based youth work. We are now expanding our presence-based approach to include Tamariki Tipu – Growing Children, a model tailored to support the wellbeing of younger children (Year 1-8).

Why tables?

This event will also provide schools with colourful tables where tamariki and taiohi can sit with children’s workers to kōrero and read messages of encouragement and support. The tables will be delivered into local schools around Aotearoa.

At the event

Enjoy a 3-course Posh Picnic, along with stories from our team about the positive impact our children’s work is having in school communities nationwide. Then get creative by painting encouraging messages onto supplied tables, thanks to our incredible partners!
